A 34-year-old man who carried out an armed robbery at a convenience store on Main Street in Frodsham has been sentenced to four years in prison.
Peter Lea, of no fixed abode, appeared at Chester Crown Court today, Friday 2 May, where he admitted to charges of robbery and possession of a knife in a public place. He was also ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
The court heard that the incident occurred at approximately 4:50 pm on Tuesday 18 March when Lea entered the store armed with a knife. He then threatened the store worker and demanded all the money from the till before fleeing the scene with around £500.
Following the robbery, police officers were dispatched and quickly identified Lea as the suspect through CCTV footage from the store.
Despite being arrested, Lea refused to cooperate with the police investigation and declined to answer any questions.
However, the strength of the evidence against him led to his subsequent charge.
Detective Sergeant Stevie Jackson commented on the sentencing, stating, “This was a terrifying ordeal for all those involved, and I welcome the sentence that has been handed to Lea.”
He further added, “He is a prolific offender and has showed absolutely no regard for the store worker, and no remorse for his actions.
Thankfully, as a result of a thorough investigation, and the strength of evidence gathered against him, Lea was left with no option but to plead guilty.”
Detective Sergeant Jackson concluded by saying, “I hope that the outcome of this case demonstrates to local residents how seriously we treat robbery, and also acts as a warning to others who are intent on committing crime.”
