Emergency services responded to a serious incident in Kirkby last night following reports of a stabbing.

At approximately 8:25 PM on Wednesday, April 30th, armed police were dispatched to Whitefield Drive in the Westvale area after receiving reports that two teenagers had been stabbed.

The victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, have both been taken to hospital for assessment of their injuries. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

A significant police presence remains at the scene on Whitefield Drive, with extensive enquiries underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

These enquiries include speaking with witnesses, conducting forensic analysis, reviewing CCTV footage, and carrying out house-to-house inquiries.

A road closure is in place on Whitefield Drive at its junction with Harriers Crescent, and the public is advised to avoid the area while police work continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings addressed the community’s concerns, stating, “We understand the concern that such a serious incident will cause in our communities, especially given the young age of the victims.”

DCI Cummings urged anyone with information to come forward, appealing directly to witnesses, those who were passing by, and local residents.

“At this early stage, I would urge anyone with information to make themselves known, either to officers in Westvale this evening, or by reporting to us directly or via Crimestoppers,” she said.

“I’d ask that anyone who saw the incident, was passing or lives nearby shares what they know so we can establish what happened and find those responsible.”

She also assured the community of the ongoing police efforts, adding, “There will be a significant police presence in the area tonight as we carry out this vital work, and we are speaking to local businesses and residents to gather information. If you know anything, do the right thing and come forward.”

Merseyside Police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact their Contact Centre via X (formerly Twitter) at ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’, through their Facebook page ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’, or by calling 101, quoting reference number 1029.
