Two individuals have been charged in connection with the tragic collision in Bamber Bridge last September that resulted in the death of a newborn baby boy and left his mother with serious injuries.
The incident occurred on Station Road, near the intersection with Longbrook Avenue and Fourfields, shortly before 8 pm on Sunday, September 29th of last year.
A woman in her 30s from Bamber Bridge was on a pedestrian crossing when she was struck by a car traveling towards Preston.
The victim sustained serious injuries and continues her recovery following hospital treatment. Tragically, she was pregnant at the time of the collision.
While an emergency surgery was performed to deliver her baby boy, he sadly passed away in hospital.
Following a thorough investigation and in consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Lancashire Police have now charged two individuals.
Ashir Shahid, 20, of Windsor Road, Walton le Dale, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
A 16-year-old boy, also from Walton le Dale, has been charged with assisting an offender. Due to legal reasons, his identity cannot be disclosed.
Both individuals have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, April 30th.
Lancashire Police have confirmed that several other individuals who were arrested in connection with the investigation remain on police bail.
