Man With Sword Prompts Police Helicopter Search In Ribbleton

Police in Preston are appealing for information following reports of a man seen carrying a “sword-type weapon” in the Ribbleton Avenue area yesterday evening.

The incident, which occurred around 7:14 pm on Tuesday, April 29th, prompted a significant police response, including the deployment of the police helicopter over Ribbleton and Deepdale.

Officers were called to the scene after receiving a report that the man, who has not yet been identified, was seen with the weapon before getting into a car as a passenger.

Subsequently, police stopped a vehicle in connection with the incident. However, the man in question was not found inside. Enquiries are currently ongoing to locate him.

Inspector Dave Byrne of the Neighbourhood Policing team emphasized the seriousness with which the police are treating the report.

“We take all reports of knife crime and people carrying weapons extremely seriously,” he stated. “We had a number of officers in the area after we received the report of a man carrying a sword. Our enquiries are continuing.”

Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information that could assist with their investigation to come forward.
