Roads in the Lancaster Gate area of Lancaster have now reopened following the earlier discovery of a suspicious package.

Police confirmed that the item posed no threat after a controlled explosion was carried out by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team.

Officers were called to Lancaster Gate earlier today after a report was received concerning a suspicious package found in the area.

In line with safety protocols, a cordon was immediately put in place, causing temporary road closures and disruption for local residents and commuters.

The EOD team swiftly arrived at the scene and conducted a controlled explosion as a precautionary measure. Following a thorough assessment of the remnants, authorities confirmed that the item presented no danger to the public.

In a statement released shortly after the incident, the police said, “Following the controlled explosion, it was found that the item was of no threat. Our enquiries are ongoing into how the item came to be in that location.”

The cordon has since been lifted, and all roads in the vicinity of Lancaster Gate have been reopened, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information that could assist their ongoing enquiries into the origin of the suspicious package.

Anyone who may have witnessed anything unusual or has any relevant information is urged to contact the police on 101, quoting log number 0198 of 28th April.
