At approximately 7:50 PM, officers in an Armed Response vehicle signaled for a Toyota Yaris to stop on Pedder Street.

However, the vehicle failed to halt, leading to a prolonged pursuit that saw the car speeding through residential areas and undertaking what police described as “risky manoeuvres” in an attempt to evade capture.

The pursuit finally came to an end when the Yaris collided with a pedestrian crossing post on Blackpool Road. Authorities confirmed that, thankfully, no one sustained any injuries as a result of the collision.

Following the stop, the driver underwent a roadside drugwipe test, which yielded a positive result for cocaine.

A 64-year-old man from Preston was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while over the prescribed limit of drugs.

Lancashire Police have stated that enquiries into the incident are ongoing. They are now appealing to the public for any additional information or footage that may assist their investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the pursuit or the collision, or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident, is asked to contact Lancashire Police on 101, quoting log number 1245 of April 21st.
