Man Arrested on Suspicion of Murder After Car Deliberately Driven At Man in Woolton

A 41-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 47-year-old man died following an incident in Woolton last night, Friday 18 April.

Merseyside Police were called to Stonyhurst Road at around 11.45pm after reports that a car had been driven at the victim.

Emergency services attended the scene and the 47-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but sadly passed away.

A 41-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody to be questioned.

Detectives have launched an investigation into the incident and officers remain at Stonyhurst Road conducting witness and CCTV inquiries. The car believed to be involved has also been seized.

Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its very early stages, but it does appear the car was deliberately driven at the man.

Despite the best efforts of the people who came to his aid and those of paramedics, he sadly passed away in hospital.

Our thoughts remain with his family at this tragic time and specially trained officers are supporting them.”

She added, “We have launched an investigation into what happened and we have already arrested a suspect and seized the car we believe was involved.

Our officers are continuing to carry out inquiries at the scene and studying CCTV footage to establish the full circumstances.”

DI Coote is appealing for anyone with information to come forward, saying, “I appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident and any residents living locally who might have CCTV showing the incident, to please get in touch.

Every piece of information is vitally important to our investigation and could help us establish what happened so we can provide answers for his family.”
