Following a three-week trial at an undisclosed court, two men have today been found guilty of the murder of 38-year-old Lee Peter Davies, who was fatally stabbed in Rotherham in June 2024.
Simon Welsh, 37, of Doncaster Road, Rotherham, and Jake Shaw, 27, of Canklow Road, Rotherham, were convicted by a jury for the murder of Mr. Davies. The verdict was delivered today, Wednesday, April 16th.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, when police were called to reports of an altercation in a car park on Drummond Street in Rotherham.
Upon arrival, emergency services found Mr. Davies in a critical condition with a stab wound. Despite being rushed to hospital, he tragically died from his injuries.
In addition to the murder conviction, Simon Welsh was also found guilty of Section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent in relation to a separate incident that took place in November 2023.
The third defendant in the trial, Martin Shaw, was found not guilty of murder.
Welsh and Jake Shaw are scheduled to appear at Sheffield Crown Court on Thursday, June 19th, for sentencing.
Following the verdict, Lee Peter Davies’ family released a heartfelt statement expressing their relief and the profound impact of their loss.
“Today we feel that justice has been served and we welcome the guilty verdict placed upon the defendants,” the family said.
“Losing our son Lee Peter Davies has taken an enormous toll on our family. He will be missed beyond measure, especially by his two young children who now have to grow up and navigate life without a father.”
The family also extended their gratitude to those involved in the case, stating,
“We would like to thank the jury, the heroic witnesses who came to court and the investigation team for their time and efforts and a special thanks to the prosecution team, the OIC and SIO and our Family Liaison Officer.
We now ask that we are afforded the time to grieve for Lee privately knowing that his murderers are going to be punished appropriately.”
The investigation into the fatal stabbing has concluded with today’s verdicts. The community now awaits the sentencing of Welsh and Shaw next month.
