Merseyside Police were called to a flat at Knowsley Heights at around 10.30pm following reports that a woman had been stabbed.

Officers attended the scene and provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The woman was subsequently taken to hospital but tragically succumbed to her injuries.

Police have confirmed that the victim’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers during this difficult time.

However, he urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.

“This was a tragic incident in which a woman has sadly lost her life and specially trained officers are supporting her family,” said DCI Dyer.

“An investigation is underway, which is in the very early stages as we seek to establish exactly what has happened.”

He added that patrols in the Huyton area have been increased to provide reassurance to the local community and that officers are actively conducting CCTV and witness enquiries.

“If you live in the area and have any concerns, please speak with officers,” DCI Dyer urged.
