Police in Rossendale have launched an investigation following the discovery of a significant cannabis grow in the Hudrake area of Haslingden.
Officers were called to a property on Friday, April 4th, 2025, after residents reported strong smells emanating from the premises.
Upon entering the building, they discovered over 500 cannabis plants, estimated to have a street value of approximately £225,000. All the plants have since been seized.
In addition to the cannabis, police found evidence that the property’s electricity supply had been bypassed, posing a significant fire risk. Electricity North West attended the scene to ensure the area was safe.
Sergeant Paul Marsden, from Rossendale Police, commented on the discovery, stating,
“We will continue to tackle the cultivation of cannabis, as it can cause misery for local communities.” He further highlighted the dangers associated with such operations, saying, “The hidden dangers that this type of grow can pose, such as the risk of fire, can have incredibly harmful consequences for the property and those neighbouring it.”
Sergeant Marsden also emphasised the broader implications of cannabis cultivation, noting its potential links to organised crime and modern slavery, which he described as “absolutely unacceptable and not something we want in Lancashire.”
At this time, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police are urging anyone with information related to the discovery to come forward by calling 101 or reporting it online via the Lancashire Police website: https://doitonline.lancashire.police.uk/
This operation aligns with Lancashire Police’s Operation Warrior, a dedicated initiative aimed at tackling serious and organised crime within the county.
Supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, Operation Warrior targets individuals and gangs involved in various criminal activities, including drug supply, violence, exploitation, and fraud.
