A former Metropolitan Police officer has been sentenced to four years and six months imprisonment after being convicted of rape.
PC Samuel McGregor, 33, who was previously attached to the Central North Command Unit, appeared at Inner London Court on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, where the sentence was handed down.
McGregor was found guilty of rape on Friday, January 24, following a trial at Inner London Crown Court. He had previously pleaded not guilty to the charge on June 23, 2023.
The court heard that the victim, who was known to McGregor, was raped at an address in London on May 11, 2021. The victim later confided in her colleagues, who reported the incident to police on her behalf on June 2, 2021. McGregor was arrested the following day on suspicion of rape.
Following his conviction, an accelerated misconduct hearing took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025. As a result of the hearing, McGregor was dismissed from the Metropolitan Police without notice.
He will also be placed on the barred list held by the College of Policing, preventing him from future employment within policing bodies.
Chief Superintendent Andy Carter, in charge of policing for Central North, expressed his disgust at McGregor’s actions.
“I am sickened by McGregor’s abhorrent behaviour and the pain he has caused the victim,” he said. “There is simply no place for individuals like McGregor in the Met, and we will continue to root out such vile individuals.”
He added, “Now that criminal proceedings have taken place, McGregor has faced a misconduct hearing at the earliest opportunity.”
The initial information released by the Met Police had indicated that a misconduct hearing would take place in due course following the criminal proceedings.
This hearing was held on February 27, leading to McGregor’s immediate dismissal.
It was also revealed that McGregor had been suspended from duty on March 3, 2022, after admitting to lying during a police interview.
The conviction and subsequent sentencing of PC McGregor highlight the Metropolitan Police’s commitment to addressing misconduct within its ranks.
His dismissal and placement on the barred list signify the serious consequences for officers who betray the trust placed in them.
