Greater Manchester Police have arrested seven people and recovered a crossbow following reports of a disturbance on Romney Street in Salford last night (Monday, April 14, 2025).
Specialist officers were deployed to the scene at approximately 9:30 pm after a gun was reportedly seen during the incident.
A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon, while six teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, have been arrested on suspicion of affray.
Following the incident, a dispersal order was authorised at 10:47 pm under Section 34 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.
The order, which will remain in place for 24 hours, covers a designated area including Cheetham Street West, Littleton Road, Poppy Lane, Langley Road South, and Lissadel Street.
This order grants police the power to direct individuals within this zone to leave and not return for the specified period to prevent any further disorder.
Detective Superintendent Simon Moyles praised the swift action of frontline officers, stating:
“Our frontline officer’s rapid response to a concerning report prevented what could have been a dangerous incident from occurring.”
He added, “There was a large group of youths gathering in the area, and officers intervened in fights and helped several young people return home safely. Thankfully, no one at the scene required medical treatment.”
DS Moyles confirmed that the investigation is progressing quickly, with seven individuals in custody and a weapon removed from the streets. Enquiries are currently ongoing.
“A police presence will remain in the area as we conduct enquiries and gather evidence. Neighbourhood officers will be patrolling around to provide reassurance to the local community,” DS Moyles assured residents.
He acknowledged the potential for alarm within the community and encouraged anyone with concerns to speak with local neighbourhood officers or visit the “Your Area” page on the Greater Manchester Police website.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact police on 101, quoting log number 3631 from April 14, 2025. Alternatively, individuals can provide information anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
