Michael Brock, 40, of The Fairway, Moston, will spend at least the next 22 years behind bars after being sentenced to life imprisonment at Manchester Crown Court yesterday (Friday, April 11th) for a catalogue of heinous crimes, including the attempted murder of two men, rape, and threats to kill.

The sentencing follows his conviction on Tuesday, July 9th, 2024, on three counts of attempted murder, rape, and threats to kill.

The chilling details of the case reveal a meticulously planned and brutal attack that unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, July 29th, 2023.

Two women, one of whom was known to Brock and against whom he had a restraining order prohibiting contact, had returned to a residence with two men they had met the previous night.

Unbeknownst to the group, Brock, using the alias ‘Mike David’ on Facebook, had attempted to befriend one of the women online, violating his restraining order.

Just after 6 am, CCTV footage captured Brock heading towards the property on Moston Lane.

He gained entry armed with a rucksack containing a terrifying arsenal: a knife, a hammer, a foldable saw, a lighter, and accelerant-soaked rags – tools detectives believe were intended for the murder of the woman he was forbidden from contacting.

Upon entering the house and discovering the two men present, Brock launched a savage and sustained attack in the kitchen. Both men suffered horrific and life-threatening knife injuries, with one also sustaining a fractured skull, requiring extensive hospital treatment.

Amidst the carnage, the two women managed to flee the property, running barefoot to Harpurhey Police Station. Their desperate escape was aided by compassionate members of the public who called 999.

While officers attended to the distressed women, another team arrived at the scene of the crime to find Brock being restrained by his two severely injured male victims, both covered in blood. Brock was immediately arrested for attempted murder.

A subsequent search of Brock’s home in Moston uncovered a disturbing collection of knives, a bottle of Propan alcohol, and a petrol canister, further solidifying the prosecution’s case that Brock had carefully orchestrated a deadly plan.

During the initial police interviews, one of the women bravely disclosed a previous horrific assault, revealing that Brock had raped her nearly three years prior.

Following a comprehensive investigation, the jury found Brock guilty of the attempted murder of both men, as well as the attempted murder and rape of the woman who was identified as his intended target on that fateful morning.

Detective Inspector Natasha Feerick of City of Manchester CID condemned Brock’s actions, stating:

“We strongly believe that Brock contacted the woman and arrived at her house in a meticulously planned and callous attempt to kill her, his plan failed when he was greeted with more people in the property than he expected.

“He launched a vicious and sustained attack on the two men who both received serious injuries as a result of Brock’s aggressive behaviour and now have to suffer with the consequences of his actions for life, he has also left the two women involved with mental scars of what happened that morning, and they will all never be the same again.”

DI Feerick praised the dedication of the investigation team and commended the bravery of the rape victim for supporting the difficult case.

“We welcome today’s result and hope that it will go some way to allowing those people who have been affected by Brock’s actions to come to terms with what has happened to them and to heal from the horrific experience they have endured.”

The sentencing of Michael Brock brings a chapter of terror to a close for the victims, but the long-lasting physical and emotional scars of his brutal actions will undoubtedly remain.
