House Destroyed in Worksop Explosion Residents Evacuated

A major incident is underway in Worksop after a significant explosion ripped through a terraced house on John Street.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 7:39 PM following reports of a blast inside a residential property.

The explosion has resulted in the partial destruction of the house, with significant damage also reported to neighbouring properties.

In response, multiple houses in and around John Street have been evacuated as emergency crews work diligently to account for all local residents and ensure their safety.

A number of nearby roads have been closed to allow emergency services unfettered access to the area. Authorities are strongly advising the public to avoid the John Street area until further notice.

Chief Inspector Neil Humphris of Nottinghamshire Police addressed the situation, stating,

“This is a major incident and emergency services will remain at the scene throughout the night. Multiple properties have been evacuated as we work with our partners to respond to this incident and understand how it happened.”

Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their presence at the scene, stating, “We then have a number of appliances at an incident on John Street, Worksop. This is a gas explosion.”

The emergency services are working collaboratively to assess the extent of the damage, ensure the safety of residents, and investigate the cause of the explosion.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that may assist with their inquiries.

This incident in Worksop is one of two significant events currently being dealt with by Nottinghamshire emergency services.

Fire crews are also attending a large industrial fire on Holgate Road in The Meadows, Nottingham, where eight fire engines are currently on scene.

The Fire and Rescue Service has acknowledged the high volume of calls their control room is currently receiving, particularly concerning the incident in The Meadows.
