A 69-year-old pedestrian, named as Mr Brian Norris, has sadly died following a road traffic collision in Leigh, Wigan.
Police were called to the junction of Kirkhall Lane and Atherleigh Way at approximately 3pm on Monday, March 31, 2025, following reports of a collision involving a double decker bus and a pedestrian.
Initial enquiries established that the bus was travelling along the road when it collided with Mr Norris.
Emergency services attended the scene and Mr Norris was taken to Salford Royal Hospital for treatment.
Tragically, he passed away in hospital on Thursday, April 3, 2025, surrounded by his family.
In a heartfelt statement released through the police, Brian’s family said:
“Brian was a loving husband, father, brother, grandad and friend. He will be greatly missed and our hearts are broken.
“As a family we would like to thank the doctors and the very caring nurses for the wonderful care and dignity they gave Brian, thank you would never be enough.
While this is a heart-breaking loss for the family, Brian’s selfless act of organ donation has touched the lives of many.”
The family has also requested privacy as they grieve their loss.
Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing.
