A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drink driving after allegedly colliding with a fire engine on the A595 at Calder Bridge last night and fleeing the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:15 pm on Friday, April 11th. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision. However, the driver of the car involved reportedly failed to stop at the scene.

Following the incident, officers from Cumbria Police launched an investigation and successfully tracked down the suspected driver to a property he was renting in the Cumbria area.

The man, who is from the Hartlepool area, was subsequently arrested.

In addition to suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision, the man was also arrested on suspicion of drink driving after providing a breathalyser reading that was reportedly more than double the legal limit.

The arrested individual has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

This arrest is the latest success under Cumbria Police’s Operation Spotlight, an ongoing initiative targeting the “Fatal Four” driving offences: speeding, using a mobile phone at the wheel, not wearing a seatbelt, and driving under the influence of drink and/or drugs.

Cumbria Police highlighted this incident as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of responsible road behaviour.
