A swift response from Blackpool Police this afternoon resulted in the arrest of a male reported to be in possession of a knife on the Promenade near the Life Boat Station.
Police confirmed they received reports of the incident and patrols were on the scene in under two minutes.
A joint effort between the Immediate Response team and the local Neighbourhood Policing team successfully intercepted the male, who attempted to flee but was apprehended by officers.
A search of the detained individual led to the discovery of a knife, and he was subsequently arrested.
In addition to the weapon possession, the male was also arrested for allegedly threatening someone with a bladed article and for making threats to commit criminal damage.
He is currently in police custody, where he will be dealt with by trained officers in relation to the incident.
In a statement released this afternoon, Blackpool Police sought to reassure the public, stating:
“We want to assure you that this was an isolated incident and there was not threat to the wider public.
We take knife crime very seriously and are committed to making your town a safer place by targeting those who carry these items in public.”
The police also indicated their intention to provide a further update on the incident when possible.
