Two men who led police on a dramatic 90-minute pursuit across three different police force areas have been sentenced at Chester Crown Court.
Jake Fagan, 29, of Ellesmere Port, received a sentence of four years and eight months, while Connor Mitchell, 29, of Elton, Chester, was jailed for three years and six months at a hearing on Thursday, April 10.
The court heard how the lengthy chase unfolded on Thursday, July 18, 2024, after a motorist reported a road rage incident in Deansgate, Ellesmere Port, at approximately 2:45 pm.
The victim stated that two individuals on a motorcycle had blocked the road, threatened her with a knife, and smashed a rear window of her vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Cheshire Police’s Roads and Crime Unit and armed patrols, supported by the National Police Air Service (NPAS), quickly responded.
A pursuit commenced, with NPAS providing aerial commentary to guide officers on the ground.
The chase spanned nearly 90 minutes and traversed a significant distance, starting in Ellesmere Port, moving into Merseyside, then across to Chester, onto Frodsham, crossing into North Wales, and finally back into Chester.
During the pursuit, the motorcycle reached speeds of up to 90mph and was driven against the flow of traffic on the M56 motorway.
Efforts to stop the pair culminated in the successful deployment of stinger devices in Grovensor Street and Nicholas Street in Chester, near Watergate Street.
This led to the arrest of both the rider and the passenger after a brief foot chase. Fagan was identified as the rider, and Mitchell as the passenger.
During the pursuit, the suspects discarded a bag which was later recovered by police. The bag was found to contain a quantity of Class A drugs, identified as cocaine.
Following his arrest, Fagan was further charged with criminal damage after punching and headbutting a wall during his interview, causing two holes.
Both men had pleaded guilty to multiple offences. Fagan’s charges included section 47 assault, possession of a knife, criminal damage, possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine), handling stolen goods, dangerous driving, and driving without insurance.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Fagan was also disqualified from driving for five years and 28 months.
Mitchell pleaded guilty to possession of a knife and possession with intent to supply Class A drugs (cocaine).
The assault charge against Fagan related to a separate incident on July 14, 2024, where he and another individual on a motorcycle approached a man in Eton Road, Ellesmere Port, made threats, and Fagan then assaulted him.
