An XL Bully dog that had been missing since becoming loose in the Hillfoot area of Sheffield on Thursday, April 3rd, has been located alive today (Friday, April 11th).

Police confirmed they received reports at 1:18 pm that the dog had been found on Bank House Road.

Officers attended the scene and identified the animal as the same one that had gone missing last week.

Dog Legislation Officers safely recovered the XL Bully and transported it to a veterinary practice for treatment.

However, South Yorkshire Police have sadly confirmed that, following veterinary advice due to the extent of the dog’s injuries, the difficult decision was made to euthanise the animal.

The dog’s owner has been informed of this outcome and has disclaimed ownership of the animal.

The XL Bully initially went missing last Thursday when police were called to reports of a firearms discharge on Daniel Hill Street.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the initial firearms incident, and two men have subsequently been charged with firearms offences.

Chief Superintendent for Sheffield, Jamie Henderson, expressed his gratitude to the public for their vigilance while the dog was loose. He stated:

“I would like to thank the public for remaining vigilant when this animal was loose.”

He also confirmed that the investigation into the reported firearms discharge on April 3rd is ongoing, urging anyone with information to come forward.

“We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported firearms discharge on 3 April, and anyone with information is asked to get in touch online or by calling 101 quoting incident number 948 of 3 April 2025.
