Liverpool Crown Court has sentenced Eleanor Hepburn, 22, to 22 months in prison for a campaign of stalking against her ex-partner that included barricading her home, posting dead mice through her letterbox, and throwing eggs at her property.
Hepburn, formerly of East Street, Havant, appeared in court on Friday, April 4th, after previously pleading guilty to stalking involving serious alarm and distress.
The court heard how Hepburn’s disturbing behaviour began shortly after she and her ex-partner rekindled a previous relationship.
The incidents escalated over several months, starting in August 2024 when Hepburn repeatedly banged on the victim’s door and screamed in the early hours of the morning.
The following month saw Hepburn use five large waste bins to barricade the victim’s home, blocking access.
Her campaign of harassment continued with persistent calls from withheld numbers, leaving cigarette stubs outside the victim’s address, and pushing items through her letterbox.
The court was shown CCTV footage of Hepburn delivering a dead mouse to the victim’s home, where she posted one and scattered several others outside.
In a further disturbing act, Hepburn recorded herself throwing eggs at a property linked to the victim and later threatened to post fireworks through her front door.
Hepburn was initially arrested on September 23rd, 2024, and released on bail with conditions not to enter Cheshire or contact her ex-partner.
However, she breached these conditions, leading to her rearrest and remand into custody on January 11th, 2025.
Further investigation by the Harm Reduction Unit uncovered alarming material on Hepburn’s phone, including a video of a hammer on her knee and voice notes threatening to use it to harm the victim and those close to her.
Other threats included running the victim and her partner over.
Faced with overwhelming evidence, Hepburn pleaded guilty to the offence. In addition to the 22-month jail sentence, Warrington Magistrates’ Court issued Hepburn with a 5-year Stalking Protection Order on March 13th.
This order prohibits her from contacting the victim, entering Warrington, and requires her to allow officers to inspect her electronic devices.
Detective Constable Katie Ashcroft of the Harm Reduction Unit condemned Hepburn’s actions, stating:
“Hepburn’s actions towards the victim in this case were abhorrent. She appeared to take pride in her actions, videoing herself throwing eggs at addresses, and delivering dead mice to her victim.
Hepburn boasted about her actions and has shown little appreciation for the distress she caused.”
DC Ashcroft praised the victim’s courage in coming forward and emphasized the seriousness with which Cheshire Constabulary treats stalking cases.
“I hope that the sentence imposed by the courts highlights the seriousness of Hepburn’s actions and demonstrates the severe consequences of stalking,” she said.
“Cheshire Constabulary take all reports of stalking extremely seriously. It is an insidious crime that steals lives, and we are committed to using every tool and power available to us to protect the public from the risk’s stalkers pose.”
The Harm Reduction Unit, a specialist service involving Cheshire Constabulary, NHS Trusts, and the Probation Service, played a crucial role in the investigation and securing the Stalking Protection Order.
