A late night traffic stop in Cottam led to the arrest of a man and woman from Kirkham on suspicion of multiple offences, including possession of a knife, money laundering, and drug possession.

At approximately 11:30 pm on Tuesday night, officers from the Road Crime Team stopped a grey BMW X5 on Finch Lane.

The driver, a 46-year-old man, reportedly told officers he was in the area to collect a bicycle. However, no bike was found within the vehicle.

During a search of the BMW, officers discovered a knife and a bag containing an estimated £5,000 to £6,000 in cash in the passenger footwell.

Following the roadside stop, further searches were conducted at an associated address. These searches yielded a significantly larger sum of cash, estimated to be around £150,000, along with quantities of cannabis and an unidentified white powder.

As a result of the discoveries, both the driver and the passenger, a 39-year-old woman, also from Kirkham, were arrested.

The pair are currently in custody and are being held on suspicion of possession of a knife/sharp pointed article in a public place, money laundering, and possession of Class A and Class B drugs.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing, and police have not yet released further details.

This incident highlights the proactive work of the Road Crime Team in targeting potential criminal activity within the community.
