The family of Clare Burns, the 51-year-old woman tragically found deceased at a residence in Harpurhey on Monday, have released a moving tribute, describing her as a “loving mother, auntie, sister and daughter” who would “light up the room.”
Police were called to an address on Queens Road at 4:07 am on Monday, April 7, 2025, where they sadly discovered Ms. Burns.
In their statement, Clare’s family said:
“Clare was a loving mother, auntie, sister and daughter. She was funny, outgoing and a very independent person. She was also kind, generous and friendly to anyone she met. Clare would always light up the room she entered, and she was a brilliant friend to many. We will miss her dearly.”
Following initial enquiries at the scene, a 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. Greater Manchester Police have now confirmed that Leonard Lee Stewart, born on April 8, 1970, and residing on Queens Road, Manchester, has been charged with her murder.
Stewart was charged on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and remains in police custody. He is scheduled to appear at Manchester City Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, April 9, 2025.
Greater Manchester Police have also confirmed that due to previous contact between the police and both the victim and the suspect, a voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). The IOPC is currently assessing the case.
