The devastated family of 60-year-old Barry Dawson, who was fatally shot at his home in Stanley, have paid tribute to him, describing him as a “much-loved father, granddad and partner” whose loss will leave an “enormous gap” in their lives.
Mr. Dawson died on Saturday, April 5th, after being shot through a window of his residence in Elm Street, South Moor.
In a heartfelt statement released today, his family said:
“Barry was a much-loved father, granddad and partner who will be greatly missed. We are truly devastated, and his loss will leave an enormous gap in our lives.”
The family have requested privacy as they come to terms with their profound loss and are being supported by specialist family liaison officers.
Meanwhile, the investigation into Mr. Dawson’s death continues at pace.
A 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, who were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on Sunday, remain in police custody.
A dedicated team of 35 detectives from the major crime team at Durham Constabulary are working “around the clock” on the case, with support from armed response officers, specialist crime scene examiners, search teams, and neighbourhood officers.
Police have confirmed they are pursuing several lines of enquiry, and the community can expect a continued significant police presence in the Stanley and Annfield Plain areas.
Extra patrols are also being carried out, and residents with any concerns are encouraged to speak to the officers.
Detectives are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a white Seat Arona with the registration number NA24 OJK on Saturday, April 5th, in the Stanley and Annfield Plain area.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, or 999 in an emergency, quoting incident number 302 of April 5.
