Detectives in Liverpool are appealing for witnesses following an unprovoked assault on a man who was watching the St Patrick’s Day parade on Ranelagh Street last month.
The incident occurred at approximately 3.30pm on Monday, 17th March, as the victim was enjoying the celebrations in the city centre.
According to police reports, a group of four to five men directed verbal abuse at the victim before one of them punched him.
The force of the blow caused the victim to fall to the ground, hitting his head on the pavement. The attacker continued to punch the victim until a member of the public intervened to help.
Following the assault, the group of men were seen heading on foot in the direction of the Adelphi hotel.
The victim subsequently attended hospital where he received treatment for injuries to his head and a finger.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that extensive CCTV footage is being reviewed and witness enquiries have been carried out as part of their investigation.
Now, detectives are urging anyone with further information or any mobile phone or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
Detective Inspector Joanne Jacob condemned the attack, stating:

She added, “We hope anyone who witnessed this assault will come forward to assist with our enquiries. We believe the people who were watching the parade could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.”
