Two members of the public have been hailed as heroes for their compassionate and quick-thinking actions that potentially saved a man’s life at a level crossing in Attenborough.

The incident occurred just before 2pm on Saturday, April 5th, when the two women noticed a distressed man on the railway lines. Recognizing the immediate danger, they bravely approached the man and began to engage with him, building a crucial rapport while emergency services were alerted.

Their calm and empathetic approach proved vital. The man, who was clearly in distress, responded to their kindness and agreed to their instructions to move away from the tracks.

He was then kept safe in one of their gardens until officers from West Midlands Police arrived at the scene.

Inspector Alice Bartle praised the women’s courageous intervention, stating:

“I would like to recognise the quick-thinking actions of two members of the public when they saw a man in distress on the railway lines.”

She emphasized the potential severity of the situation, adding:

“I am in no doubt if these two women were not there then the outcome could have been very different. It was due to their compassion that they have essentially saved a man’s life.”

Inspector Bartle further commended their actions, saying:

Both were able to build a rapport with him and keep him safe and calm until police arrived. They were very kind to him and brave in their actions. I would just like to personally thank them.”

The identities of the two women have not been released, but their selfless actions serve as a powerful reminder of the positive impact individuals can have in times of crisis.

This incident highlights the importance of looking out for one another and the potential for everyday citizens to make a life-saving difference.
