The family of 16-year-old Ahmad Mamdouh Al Ibrahim, who tragically died following a fatal stabbing in Huddersfield last week, have released a poignant tribute to their “kind, gentle” son and nephew.

Ahmad was fatally injured in an incident on Ramsden Street on April 3, 2025.

Today, the family shared a photograph of Ahmad and issued a deeply moving statement expressing their profound grief and highlighting the circumstances that led him to the UK.

“Our beloved Ahmad was taken from us on April 3, 2025, he was only 16,” the family wrote. “Ahmad fled war-torn Homs, Syria, after being injured in a bombing.

He chose to come to the UK because he believed in the values of human rights, safety, and dignity. He was full of hope and dreamed of becoming a doctor—wanting to heal others after all he had endured.”

The tribute revealed that Ahmad had recently begun to build a new life in the UK with his uncle.

“He had just begun settling into his new life with his uncle, adjusting to a new language, a new home, and a future he was excited to build,” the family stated.

Describing their devastating loss, they continued, “Ahmad was kind, gentle, and carried so much promise.

Losing him has left an unimaginable emptiness in our hearts. We never thought that the place he saw as a safe haven would be where his life would end.”

Their heartfelt statement concluded with a plea: “Our only wish now is to lay him to rest in his homeland, Syria. Thank you for helping us honour his memory.”

The tribute comes as Alfie Franco, aged 20, of The Park, Kirkburton, appeared at Leeds Crown Court earlier today, April 8, charged with Ahmad’s murder.

Franco was remanded in custody, and a trial date has been set for October 2, 2025.

Officers from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are continuing their investigation into the fatal stabbing and are providing ongoing support to Ahmad’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
