Police have named the man who tragically died after being shot at his home in Stanley over the weekend as Barry Dawson, aged 60.

Officers were called to a property on Elm Street in the South Moor area of Stanley at approximately 5:20 PM on Saturday, April 5th, following reports of a disturbance.

Upon arrival, they found Mr. Dawson with a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A postmortem examination conducted today confirmed that Mr. Dawson died as a result of a single gunshot wound.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the fatal shooting and have renewed their appeal for witnesses.

They are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen a white Seat Arona in the vicinity of Elm Street around the time of the incident.

The white Seat Arona has since been located abandoned in the nearby Oxhill area and has been thoroughly examined by crime scene investigators.

Two individuals, a 37-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman, who were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, remain in police custody at this time.

A police cordon remains in place at the Elm Street address as officers continue their enquiries at the scene.

Durham Constabulary is urging anyone who may have information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Elm Street or Oxhill areas on Saturday afternoon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident number 302 of April 5th.

In an emergency, members of the public are advised to call 999.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are committed to bringing those responsible for Mr. Dawson’s death to justice.
