Police have moved to reassure the public after unfounded rumours circulated on social media earlier on Monday, claiming a man had been stabbed at Coral Island in Blackpool.

Officers confirmed they were called to Bonny Street just after 6:30 PM following reports of a man seen with a significant leg injury.

Responding swiftly to the scene alongside paramedics, police located the injured man nearby. However, after examining his injury and speaking with him, it was determined that the bleeding was a result of a medical condition and not a deliberate assault.

The man received treatment at the scene from paramedics but declined further hospital care.

Local residents expressed their shock to hear of the so-called stabbing which sent fear across those living and visiting Blackpool especially over the Easter holidays.

In a statement released on Monday night authorities addressed the online speculation directly.

“We know there is some speculation on social media that a man had been stabbed in Blackpool earlier today and we just wanted to reassure you that this is not true,” the statement read.

“We can confirm that we were called to Bonny Street just after 6.30pm following reports that a man had been seen with an injury to his leg which was bleeding quite heavily.

Our officers quickly attended the scene with paramedics and located the injured man nearby. After examining the injury and speaking to the man, it transpires his injury is as a result of a medical condition.

He has been treated at the scene but declined to go to hospital.”

The police concluded their statement by acknowledging the potential concern caused by the online reports, stating, “We know that people may have been concerned by these online reports, and we just wanted to allay any fears you might have had.”

This incident serves as a reminder of the potential for misinformation to spread rapidly through social media channels and highlights the importance of relying on official sources for accurate information.
