Detectives investigating a shooting incident in Bootle on Friday evening have made an arrest.
At approximately 5:50 PM on Friday, April 4th, Merseyside Police received reports of shots being fired on William Henry Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered damage to the front wall of a residential property. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Police believe the incident was a targeted attack. Following their initial enquiries, a 33-year-old man has been apprehended on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of a Class B controlled drug.
The arrested man is currently in police custody as the investigation continues.
Detective Inspector John Mullen, from the Firearms Investigation Team, condemned the reckless act, stating:
“The risks of firing a gun in a residential street are clear and such dangerous and reckless behaviour will never be tolerated by Merseyside Police. Friday was a sunny Spring day and children were playing out in the street, which makes the shooting even more despicable.”
Despite the arrest, DI Mullen urged the public to come forward with any information that could aid their investigation.
“Although we have made an arrest we would still ask anyone with information which could assist our investigation to get in touch,” he said.
“Our officers will be working to reassure the community as well as conducting the investigation and we are appealing to anyone who was in the area of William Henry Street at around 5.50pm on Friday who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact us.
We would also ask for anyone who was in the area to check their CCTV, dashcam devices or doorbell footage to see if they captured anything significant.”
Merseyside Police reiterated their commitment to tackling gun crime.
“We are determined to rid the streets of firearms and find all those prepared to store, carry and use them. As always our communities are our eyes and ears and we rely on them to come forward with information and support us with our investigations,” added DI Mullen.
Anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage, or any information related to the incident, is asked to DM Merseyside Police’s social media desk on Twitter @MerPolCC or Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’, quoting reference number 255000277041.
