A 56-year-old man from Leeds has been sentenced to 24 years in prison today (Monday, April 7th) at Leeds Crown Court after being convicted of ten serious sexual offences, including five counts of rape.

Khalid Hussain was found guilty by a jury in October 2024 for offences committed against a young girl between 2010 and 2014.

The victim, who was a child at the time of the offences, bravely came forward as an adult in March 2020, triggering an investigation by the Leeds Safeguarding Team. Hussain was arrested shortly after the initial report.

Detective Constable Bernadette Cooper, the officer in the case, commended the victim’s courage, stating:

“The victim in this case has shown incredible bravery in coming forward and making the report to police. It has been an incredibly long and challenging time for her, and she has not wavered in her support for the investigation to allow us to investigate this matter objectively and robustly.”

DC Cooper added, “Hussain’s offences have quite simply been appalling, and we welcome his sentencing today. We always encourage all victims of sexual assault to come forwards, no matter how long ago offending took place.

All reports are thoroughly and sympathetically investigated, and we can also help link victims with partner agencies for any support they may need.”

The jury at Leeds Crown Court heard the details of Hussain’s crimes, leading to his conviction on all ten charges. He was remanded in custody following the guilty verdict and appeared in court today for his sentencing.

Police have praised the victim’s strength and resilience throughout the investigation and prosecution process.

They reiterate their commitment to supporting victims of sexual offences and encourage anyone who has experienced such crimes to come forward, assuring them that their reports will be taken seriously and handled with sensitivity.
