The family of 31-year-old Mike Glasby, who tragically died following a road traffic collision on the M53 in Wirral yesterday, Sunday, April 6th, have issued a heartfelt tribute.
Emergency services were called to the slip road leading from the northbound carriageway onto the Moreton Spur at approximately 3:35 PM following reports that a blue Suzuki motorcycle had collided with a road barrier.
Despite the efforts of paramedics at the scene, Mr. Glasby, from Wirral, sadly succumbed to his serious injuries.
In a moving statement released today, his family said:
“It is with deep sorrow and overwhelming grief that we, the family of Mike Glasby, announce the tragic passing of our beloved partner, daddy, son, brother, uncle and nephew in a fatal road traffic collision on Sunday 6 April 2025, on the M53 motorway at junction 2.”
They described Mike as “much-loved, known for his kindness, sense of humour, and unwavering support for his family and friends.”
The family added that his “sudden and untimely death has left an irreplaceable void in our lives” and requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time.
Merseyside Police have confirmed that an investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
A 30-year-old man from the Wirral has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug driving and is currently in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the lead investigating officer from Merseyside Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), offered his condolences, stating:
“Our thoughts are with Mike’s family at this sad time and they are being supported by specialist officers. It is now a priority for us to get answers for them about how the collision occurred and my team are working to establish key facts.”
DS Timpson appealed to the public for assistance, noting the busy nature of the motorway network at the time of the incident.
“Early enquiries show there were a number of vehicles in the area at that time, and I believe it may have been witnessed by members of the public or have been captured on dash cameras. I would appeal directly to anyone who saw anything and who has yet to speak with my team to please get in touch.”
He further revealed a potential link to an earlier location, stating: “I believe that both Mike and the arrested person have been riding their motorcycles having visited a pub on Ferry Road by the River Mersey and have travelled from that location to the scene of the collision.
To that end I appeal for anyone who may have seen a blue Suzuki Bandit and a black Kawasaki travelling together just prior to the collision to please get in touch.”
