A BMW M235i was seized by authorities on Golden Way in Penwortham after it was discovered that the vehicle was being driven without valid insurance.
Police were alerted to the presence of the vehicle, and subsequent enquiries revealed that the one-day insurance policy covering the BMW had expired in January 2025.
This meant the vehicle was being driven uninsured for a period of several months.
Section 165 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 grants police the power to seize vehicles being driven without valid insurance. Following the discovery, the driver of the BMW was reported, and the vehicle was impounded.
Driving without valid insurance is a serious offence in the United Kingdom.
Convictions can lead to significant penalties, including a fixed penalty notice of £300 and six penalty points on the driver’s license.
More severe cases can result in a court appearance, leading to a driving ban and a potentially unlimited fine.
Additionally, uninsured drivers are liable for any costs incurred in the event of an accident.
This incident serves as a stark reminder to all motorists of the importance of ensuring their vehicle is continuously insured.
It is the driver’s responsibility to check the expiry date of their insurance policy and renew it promptly to avoid facing legal consequences and the inconvenience of having their vehicle seized.
