A driver involved in a single-vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) on the M6 southbound near Junction 33 earlier this afternoon provided a roadside breath sample more than three times the legal alcohol limit, police have confirmed.

Miraculously, despite the severity of the incident which left the vehicle visibly damaged, no serious injuries were reported.

By sheer luck, no other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of the incident. While the exact circumstances leading to the crash are under investigation, the subsequent breath test result has sent shockwaves through local authorities and road safety campaigners.

To be driving with that level of alcohol in your system is utterly irresponsible and puts not only the driver but all other road users at significant risk. It is incredibly fortunate that no one was seriously injured or killed as a result of this individual’s reckless actions.

The legal alcohol limit for drivers in the UK is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. A reading of more than three times this limit indicates a dangerously high level of intoxication.

The driver, who has not yet been named, was taken into custody and is expected to face serious charges related to drink driving.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnesses drink driving to report it immediately to help keep Lancashire’s roads safe, you can do this by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.
