South Yorkshire Police have made a fourth arrest and charged a man in connection with two linked incidents of gun crime that occurred in Sheffield earlier this week.

Detectives are continuing their investigation at pace following the alarming events in the Hillfoot and Stannington areas of the city.

The first incident occurred on Thursday, April 3rd, at approximately 10:04 pm on Daniel Hill Street in Hillfoot. Police were called to reports that a gun had been fired outside a residential address, resulting in damage to a vehicle’s windows.

Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle fleeing the scene shortly after the shots were fired. Armed officers who attended the location found evidence consistent with a firearms discharge.

Hours later, at 3:11 am on Friday, April 4th, police were called to a reported road traffic collision on Liberty Drive in the Stannington area.

The collision involved a motorbike and a silver Volkswagen Golf. It is understood that shots were fired at a man at this location.

Officers recovered both vehicles involved in the collision and discovered further evidence of a firearms discharge nearby.

Recognising the potential link between the two incidents, officers swiftly launched an investigation and initially arrested two men and a woman.

Providing an update on the investigation, police confirmed yesterday evening (Friday, April 4th) that a further arrest had been made.

A 35-year-old man was taken into custody on suspicion of affray, bringing the total number of arrests to four. This individual has since been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Of those arrested on Thursday, Marcus Ned, 39, from the Hillfoot area of Sheffield, has now been charged with a number of serious offences.

These include two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate, and attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 7th.

The 39-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm has been released on police bail pending further investigation.

The second man arrested on Thursday, who was the rider of the motorcycle involved in the Liberty Drive collision, was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has also been released on police bail.

Detective Chief Inspector Scott Harrison, the Senior Investigating Officer leading the work, reiterated the force’s commitment to tackling gun crime.

“Violence and gun crime has no place on our streets, we will not tolerate those who pose a risk through their criminality,” he stated.

He also reassured the local community, saying: “Our neighbourhood officers remain in the area today and are there for you. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.”

DCI Harrison also encouraged anyone with information, who may not feel comfortable speaking directly to the police, to contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

South Yorkshire Police are urging anyone who believes they can assist with their inquiry to get in touch online, via live chat, or by calling 101, quoting incident number 948 of April 3rd, 2025.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
