A father and his young daughter are believed to be the victims of a tragic caravan fire at the Golden Beach holiday park in Lincolnshire yesterday (Saturday, April 5th).
While formal identification is still pending, Lincolnshire Police have stated they believe the two people who sadly died in the blaze to be 48-year-old Lee Baker and his 10-year-old daughter Esme Baker, both from the Nottingham area.
Emergency services were called to the holiday park following reports of a fire, and despite the efforts of Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue, two lives were tragically lost.
Investigations into the cause of the fire commenced immediately and continued late into the night, with enquiries still ongoing today.
Detective Inspector Lee Nixon, the Senior Investigating Officer, commented on the challenging nature of the investigation.
“We believe we might be close to arriving at a working hypothesis,” he said. “We are working hard to validate the facts available to us to be able to provide answers for the family and loved ones of those who were very tragically taken by this fire. Yet the evident intensity of the fire has made this task incredibly challenging.”
Dan Moss, area manager for prevention and protection at Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue, echoed these sentiments, stating:
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family at this time. Our Fire Investigation Team is working with colleagues from Lincolnshire Police, and a full investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.”
He further added that once the investigations are complete, local fire crews and the community fire safety team will be available to address any fire safety concerns within the local area during this difficult time.
In a heartfelt statement released through Lincolnshire Police, a family member of Lee and Esme said:
“Lee and Esme were excited to be spending the first weekend of the holidays together.
We are all utterly devastated at what’s happened. This loss is incomprehensible at the moment, and we ask for people to give us space to process this utterly heartbreaking loss.”
Lincolnshire Police have expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Lee and Esme, saying:
“Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Lee and Esme. Our thoughts are with them at this incredibly sad time.”
Authorities are continuing their investigation and will provide further updates as they become available.
