Police have confirmed the discovery of a body in woodland off Haslingden Road in Rawtenstall yesterday afternoon, and while formal identification is yet to take place, it is believed to be that of missing Luke Fingleton.

Mr. Fingleton, who was reported missing from his home in Bacup by his family last Sunday, had been the subject of numerous ongoing enquiries.

In a statement released today, police shared the tragic news, saying: “While formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe it to be Luke. The tragic news has been delivered to Luke’s next of kin and our thoughts are with them at this devastating time. This is not the outcome anybody wanted.”

Authorities have confirmed that Mr. Fingleton’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.

The police statement also expressed gratitude to the public for their assistance in the search efforts.

“We would just like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who shared our appeals and, again, pass on our deepest condolences to Luke’s family.”

The news will undoubtedly come as a devastating blow to Mr. Fingleton’s family and friends, who had been desperately hoping for his safe return.

Further updates are expected to be released following formal identification by the coroner.
