Woman in Her 80s Dies Following Lathom Car Collision – Police Renew Appeal for Dashcam Footage

Lancashire Police have confirmed the sad death of a woman in her 80s who was involved in a single-vehicle collision in Lathom last week.

Emergency services were called to Meadow Lane, Lathom, near Ormskirk, at 3:37 pm on Thursday, March 27, following reports of a road traffic collision.

Upon arrival, officers found that a Suzuki Splash car had left the carriageway and entered a ditch at the side of the road.

The driver, an elderly woman in her 80s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Tragically, police have now confirmed that the woman has passed away. Her next of kin are being supported by specially trained officers.

Sergeant Anthony Beckett of the Roads Policing Team expressed his condolences, saying:

“My thoughts first and foremost are with the driver’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.”

He added that the investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing: “This collision happened in a rural location, and we are trying to find out why the car left the carriageway and when it happened.”

As part of their continued enquiries, police are renewing their appeal for any dashcam footage that may have captured the incident.

“If you witnessed what happened or have dashcam footage from the area, we ask you to contact police,” Sgt Beckett urged.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage relevant to the collision on Meadow Lane, Lathom, on Thursday, March 27, is asked to contact Lancashire Police by calling 101 and quoting log number 0884 of 27th March 2025.

Police are working to piece together the events leading up to the collision and are urging anyone who was in the Meadow Lane area around the time of the incident to come forward, even if they did not witness the collision directly.

Any piece of information could prove valuable to the investigation.
