Police in Sheffield are appealing to the public for their assistance in locating an XL Bully dog that went missing in the Hillfoot area following a firearms incident on Thursday night (April 3rd, 2025).
Officers were called to Daniel Hill Street at 10:04 PM on Thursday after reports of a gun being fired.
Upon entering a property, an XL Bully dog reportedly became aggressive, leading armed officers to discharge a firearm towards the animal.
The dog subsequently fled the scene, and it remains unknown if it sustained any injuries.
Chief Superintendent for Sheffield, Jamie Henderson, addressed the community’s potential concerns, stating,
“I would like to assure you that we are doing all we can to locate the dog or find those who may have housed it to evade police contact.”
He emphasized the importance of public vigilance, urging anyone who sees the dog to contact the authorities immediately.
“We appreciate people in our communities being vigilant, and I ask that you get in touch immediately if you see the dog. I urge you not to approach the dog, as we believe it has the ability to show aggression and cause harm,” Chief Superintendent Henderson warned.
The police are urging anyone who spots the XL Bully to call 999 immediately.
Anyone with information regarding the dog’s whereabouts is asked to get in touch online, via live chat, or by calling 101, quoting incident number 948 of April 3rd, 2025.
The incident and the subsequent search for the potentially aggressive dog are likely to raise concerns among residents in the Hillfoot area and the wider Sheffield community. The police are keen to locate the animal swiftly to ensure public safety.
