A reckless driver in an Audi S1 was arrested on the M6 near Preston earlier this week after a dangerous high-speed overertake was spotted by authorities.

Traffic police witnessed the Audi S1 overtaking the van at speed, prompting them to stop the vehicle which subsequently revealed a catalogue of offences committed by the driver.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that the driver was operating the vehicle without a valid driving licence or insurance.

Further compounding the situation, a roadside drug test was administered, which the driver failed, testing positive for cocaine.

As a result of these multiple offences, the driver was immediately arrested at the scene. The Audi S1 was also recovered by the authorities.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences of driving without a licence, insurance, and under the influence of drugs.

Driving without a valid licence in the UK can lead to between 3 and 6 penalty points on any future licence and a fine of up to £1,000.

Driving without insurance can result in a fixed penalty of £300 and 6 penalty points, and in more serious cases, an unlimited fine and disqualification from driving.

Moreover, those caught drug driving face a minimum 12-month driving ban, an unlimited fine, and a criminal record, which can impact various aspects of their lives, including employment and travel.

Lancashire Police have yet to release further details about the identity of the arrested individual.

However, this case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to ensure road safety and hold accountable those who endanger other road users through illegal and irresponsible behaviour.
