Three men have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms for a vicious attack on a man in Weston-super-Mare last year, Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed.
Billy Lane, 24, of Greenford, London, Kyle Nutley, 54, and Nathan Smith, 34, both of Weston-super-Mare, admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Bristol Crown Court.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 9, 2024, at approximately 8:40 PM on Alexandra Parade.
The court heard that the assault followed an argument, escalating rapidly into extreme violence.
Lane initiated the attack by striking the victim, then proceeded to repeatedly kick him while he lay on the ground. Nutley and Smith then joined in, stabbing the victim multiple times.
The victim sustained severe injuries, including a collapsed lung, requiring extensive hospital treatment.
He has since been discharged and is recovering at home. Attending police officers provided immediate first aid at the scene.
All three perpetrators were apprehended within an hour of the incident and were subsequently charged.
During their court appearance on Monday, March 24, each of the men pleaded guilty.
Lane received a prison sentence of four years and four months, while Nutley and Smith were each sentenced to four years and nine months.
Detective Sergeant Charlie Allen condemned the attack, stating,
“This was a brutal attack which the victim was lucky to survive. He suffered horrendous injuries as a result of the actions of Lane, Nutley and Smith that evening, but thankfully has made a good recovery.
Each of these three men played a significant part in the attack and have rightly now been handed prison sentences for their involvement.”
