Jonathan Clark, 59, of Weavers Way, South Normanton, has been sentenced to two years in prison after admitting to voyeurism, installing equipment with intent to commit voyeurism, and possessing indecent images of children.

His sentencing, which took place at Derby Crown Court on March 20th, followed a police investigation that uncovered a hidden camera used to spy on a victim.

Clark was arrested in 2022 after Derbyshire Constabulary received a report of a concealed camera found in a private space used by the victim.

A subsequent search of Clark’s devices revealed images and video footage of the victim, captured without their knowledge.

Investigators also found a recording of Clark setting up the hidden camera, which was disguised as a clock and charging station.

In addition to the voyeurism offences, a number of indecent images of children were discovered during the search.

Clark pleaded guilty to all charges. In addition to the two-year prison sentence, he was also given a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).

Detective Constable Ruth Robinson, the officer leading the investigation, condemned Clark’s actions.

“Jonathan Clarke is a manipulative offender whose deception hid his sinister motives, which centred around his own gratification,” she stated.

“A prison sentence will not undo the invasion of privacy that the victim was subjected to, but hopefully it will offer some closure.”

DC Robinson also highlighted the serious nature of voyeurism and its potential to escalate into more severe sexual offences.

“We know that voyeurism can be a gateway offence that leads to further serious sexual offences, which is why we take any reports of it extremely seriously and would encourage anyone affected to report it to us,” she added.

Derbyshire Constabulary urges anyone who believes they may have been a victim of voyeurism or any similar offence to come forward and report it.
