Merseyside Police are appealing for information following a serious assault in Oxton on Tuesday, April 1st, which left a man in his 20s with lacerations to his head and arms.

Officers were called to Tarporley Close at approximately 11:30 pm after reports of an assault.

The victim subsequently self-presented at a local hospital, where his condition is described as serious, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Detectives are conducting extensive inquiries at the scene, including speaking with potential witnesses and reviewing CCTV footage, to establish the full circumstances of the attack.

Detective Inspector Andy Schofield stated,

“Our enquiries into this incident are at a very early stage, but we believe the assault was carried out by a number of males. We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Holm Lane and Tarporley Close who witnessed any part of this incident, or captured it on doorbell cameras or dashcam, to contact police.”

He urged residents who may have information or footage to come forward, emphasizing that even seemingly minor details could be crucial to the investigation.

“Residents in Oxton can expect to see increased police activity in the coming days, and I urge residents to speak to those officers and share any concerns they may have,” DI Schofield added.

DI Schofield also addressed the wider issue of knife crime, stating,

“Knife crime ruins lives – it leaves victims badly injured or worse, and leaves their families traumatised. Offenders who carry knives are themselves far more likely to become victims of knife crime too.”

He highlighted the ongoing efforts of Merseyside Police to combat knife crime through warrants, stop searches, and land searches, and appealed to the public for their cooperation.

“We will always seek to take positive action when people tell us where knives are stored and who is using them, and I appeal to anyone with information about this incident or anyone storing, carrying or using weapons, to give us information and we will do the rest.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Merseyside Police via their social media desk on X (@MerPolCC) or Facebook (‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’).

Alternatively, they can call 101, quoting incident reference 25000268435.
