The community of Wigan is in mourning following the tragic discovery of the body of Darren Orme, a local man described by his family as having a “heart of gold and a beautiful soul.”
His body was recovered on March 24, 2024, in the Stadium Way area, following an extensive search that began on March 6, 2024.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed the formal identification of Mr. Orme and expressed their gratitude to the public for their assistance during the search.
“We appreciate the public’s support in enabling our search teams to carry out their work and we would also like to thank everyone who shared our appeals in efforts to locate Darren,” a police spokesperson stated.
The investigation into Mr. Orme’s death has concluded that there are no suspicious circumstances. A file is now being prepared for the coroner.
In a heartfelt tribute, Mr. Orme’s family shared memories of a beloved brother and son.
“Darren was a loving brother with a beautiful and infectious smile, he was truly the glue that held our family together,” they said.
“He had a heart of gold and a beautiful soul, he always saw the good in everyone.
He was confident yet quirky but also vulnerable in his own way. He possessed a playful and mischievous character.”
Mr. Orme was a passionate supporter of Wigan Athletic Football Club, a fact highlighted by his family.
“Darren loved his football, and he was a passionate Wigan Athletic fan.
We’ve always described Darren as Latics royalty, and these past few weeks have really shown our family just how much he means to our community,” they stated.
“The messages of support and efforts to search for him have been truly amazing.”
The family expressed their deep sorrow, saying, “Darren meant the absolute world to us, he will be greatly missed by his family and all of us that knew and loved him.”
The community of Wigan has rallied around the Orme family during this difficult time, offering condolences and support.
