Mohammed Darweesh, 24, has been sentenced to an extended jail term of nine-and-a-half years for the rape and attempted rape of a 17-year-old boy in Nottingham’s Forest Recreation Ground.

The incident occurred on July 18, 2024, around 11:30 pm, when the victim was walking through the park. Darweesh, who appeared to be drunk, accosted the teenager and blocked his path.

Fearing Darweesh was armed with a knife, the victim followed him away from the path, where the sexual assault took place.

Darweesh then fled on foot, stealing the teenager’s watch and £10.

A passer-by attempted to pursue Darweesh, who dropped the watch. The following morning, around 4 am, Darweesh was struck by a car on Mapperley Road.

He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and later arrested after being identified as a suspect.

Darweesh, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to rape and attempted rape at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 1st.

In addition to the extended jail sentence, he will be subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order upon release.

Detective Constable Richard Robertson stated, “This was an appalling crime that understandably caused considerable distress in the community.

The victim was traumatised by what happened, and this is likely to have a lasting impact upon both him and his family.

I hope the outcome in court today can help them begin the process of moving on with their lives.”

He added, “Thankfully, incidents of this nature are extremely rare and when they do happen will be met with a robust response.”
