A disqualified driver who rammed a police vehicle during a high-speed escape attempt has been sentenced to 52 weeks in prison.

Hassan WAJID, of Manchester Road, Nelson, was apprehended following a dangerous pursuit on January 29th.

Officers from the Pendle Task Force initially attempted to stop WAJID’s vehicle after it was flagged for having no insurance.

However, WAJID, who was disqualified from driving at the time, refused to stop and instead fled the scene, colliding with a police vehicle in his attempt to escape.

Despite the dangerous manoeuvre, officers quickly identified and located WAJID, arresting him on February 3rd.

He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

On March 19th, 2025, WAJID appeared in court where he was sentenced to 52 weeks imprisonment for dangerous driving and an additional month for driving while disqualified.

He was also handed a further two-year driving disqualification.

Lancashire Police’s Pendle Neighbourhood Team have emphasized their commitment to tackling anti-social and dangerous driving within the community.

“We are determined to remove dangerous drivers from our roads,” a spokesperson stated.

“This sentencing sends a clear message that such reckless behaviour will not be tolerated. We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of our communities.”
