A serious road traffic collision involving a bus and a Luton van on Leadwell Lane in Rothwell has left the bus driver with life-threatening injuries and a number of passengers injured.
The incident occurred shortly before 12:10 pm this afternoon, Tuesday, April 2nd.
The collision resulted in the bus coming to a stop in direct contact with a nearby residential house, causing significant damage.
Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The bus driver has been transported to hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for critical injuries.
Several passengers on the bus are also being treated for injuries sustained in the collision.
In a shocking turn of events, the driver of the Luton van involved in the collision failed to stop at the scene and fled. West Yorkshire Police are now actively searching for the individual and their vehicle.
Leadwell Lane has been closed at the junctions of Northfield Avenue and Stainton Lane as emergency services and investigators work at the scene.
Motorists are being strongly advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
West Yorkshire Police are appealing to the public for any information that may assist their investigation.
