Woman arrested after pub fire treated as deliberate

A fire that significantly damaged The Cricketers Pub in Calcutt, Knaresborough, early this morning is now being treated as arson, North Yorkshire Police have confirmed.

A woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in police custody.

Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at 4:43 AM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, when the fire service contacted police.

Officers attended the scene to assist with road closures and manage the immediate aftermath.

Following a detailed examination of the scene by police crime scene investigators and fire investigation officers, it was determined that the fire was deliberately started.

“We are treating this incident as arson,” stated a spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police.

“A woman has been arrested on suspicion of arson and remains in police custody as our investigation continues.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the fire. The Cricketers Pub, however, sustained significant damage.

Police are now appealing to the public for any information that might aid their investigation.

They are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to come forward.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Calcutt area around the time of the fire,” the spokesperson added.
