A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault by penetration after police officers intervened during a routine traffic stop on Oldham Road, Manchester, in the early hours of Monday, March 31, 2025.

Officers from the City of Manchester Response Unit pulled over a white Kia Sportage at approximately 4 am.

During their interaction with the driver, they became concerned about the 18-year-old female front-seat passenger, who appeared to be under the influence and in a vulnerable state.

Following further inquiries, the officers received a confidential report indicating that the young woman had been a victim of serious sexual offences.

She was immediately taken to hospital for medical treatment.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual assault by penetration and has since been released on bail pending further investigation.
