A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear and possession of a bladed article following a disturbance in Bury on Saturday afternoon.
Police were called to Maxwell Street at approximately 2:25 PM on March 29, 2025, after reports that a man armed with a knife and firearm had attended a residential address.
It is alleged that the man discharged a shot towards a motorbike parked outside the property before fleeing the scene.
Officers quickly located and arrested the suspect, who remains in custody. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Kenyon of the Bury district reassured the public, stating,
“We swiftly arrested a man yesterday following reports of shots fired. I’m pleased to say no-one was injured during the incident. Incidents of this nature are extremely rare in Bury but I know cause significant community concern, particularly as this took place in daylight hours in a public street.
I would like to provide some reassurance that it is believed that those involved are known to one another, and there is no wider risk to the public.”
The scene at Maxwell Street has been stood down, and a new scene has been established at Mossfield Close, where police are continuing their investigations.
A significant police presence is expected in the area throughout the day.
“Those living around Mossfield Close can expect to see a large multi-agency presence throughout today whilst we continue our enquiries.
Again, I would like to reassure residents that there is no risk to them, however, if you have any concerns, you can speak to officers at the scene,” said DCI Kenyon.
Police are appealing for witnesses and are urging anyone with information, including doorbell, CCTV, or dashcam footage, to come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police on 101, quoting log 1758 of 29/03/25. Alternatively, information can be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
