Rotherham police have successfully raided a sophisticated cannabis farm, valued at an estimated £120,000, thanks to crucial information provided by local residents.

Officers from the Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) executed a warrant at a property on Cow Rakes Lane in Whiston, Rotherham, earlier this month, acting on intelligence received from the community.

The raid uncovered four rooms within the property, each equipped with advanced cannabis cultivation setups. A total of 128 cannabis plants were seized.

Police estimate the street value of each plant to be approximately £1,000, bringing the total value of the seized drugs to around £120,000.

The plants have been confiscated and will be destroyed.

A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of producing cannabis.

Inspector John Crapper of the Rotherham Central NPT praised the public’s role in the operation, stating,

“This warrant is part of Operation Grow, our ongoing effort to combat cannabis cultivation in Rotherham. This success is a direct result of information shared by our local communities. If you suspect any criminal activity in your area, please report it to us.”

Inspector Crapper emphasized the importance of community involvement in tackling organized crime, noting that cannabis farms are often linked to wider criminal networks.

He encouraged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“These reports help us build a comprehensive intelligence picture, which is vital in our commitment to tackling organized criminality,” he said.

“Remember to be aware of the signs that a property may be used for illegal activities.”

Police are urging residents to continue reporting any suspicious behaviour to help keep Rotherham safe.
